Anchorage police attempted to pull over a car in East Anchorage Friday night when it took off. The driver later ditched the car and fled on foot, police said.

Sgt. Mark Patzke said police tried to stop the man not far from San Jeronimo Drive and Northway Drive around 7:30 p.m.

After a short chase, the man left the beige car near the intersection of  Northway Drive, Patzke said.

The man ran through the woods and into a nearby neighborhood. A police dog, K-9 Earl, found the man who was wanted on outstanding warrants, Patzke said.

The unidentified man was arrested on a number charges including resisting arrest, police said.

Patzke said the man was found within 45 minutes of the initial attempted traffic stop. On scene, at least one passenger was visible in the car.
