Stellar weekend from Notre Dame senior goaltender Steve Summerhays of Anchorage.
After racking a career-high 47 saves Friday in a 2-2 Hockey East tie at Providence, Summerhays tonight stopped 36 shots in a 3-0 conference win at Providence to bag his nation-leading sixth shutout this season.
Summerhays' 12th career shutout improved him to 15-11-2 with a 2.04 goals-against average that ranks No. 9 in the nation and a .925 save percentage.
Speaking of goalies, Minnesota State-Mankato sophomore Stephon Williams of Fairbanks, who was the WCHA Rookie of the Year last season but has inexplicably faltered this season, tonight earned his first shutout of the season and fifth of his career. Easy night's work -- he was required to stop just 10 shots in a 4-0 win over visiting Alabama-Huntsville.
Stick salute to Huntsville goalie Carmine Guerriero -- he stopped 61 shots.
Meanwhile, Dartmouth sophomore winger Brad Schierhorn of Anchorage delivered two goals in a 6-1 win at Clarkson. He owns 6-7--13 totals in 25 games to rank third on his team in goals and points.
In Division III, Erik Cooper of Anchorage furnished top-ranked St. Norbert with one goal and one helper in a 7-0 win over Northland. He owns 12-15--27 totals in 25 games to rank third on his team in goals and tied for third in points.
