Taveau takes 23-second lead into final heat of 10-dog championship

Christian Taveau drove his team to the fastest time for the second straight day and will be the musher to beat in Sunday's final heat of the Raven Electric 10-dog Championship.

Taveau made Saturday's 10-mile run in 28 minutes, 18 seconds -- 17 seconds faster than second-place Nathan Sterling.

Combined with a six-second margin in Friday's heat, Taveau owns a 23-second margin over Sterling heading into the final heat at 2 p.m. at Tozier Track.

Tozier Track is also hosting the Alaskan Sled Dog & Racing Association's Junior World Championships, whre Zada Maruskie holds a 27-second lead over Kenzie Barnhart in the five-dog class.

Junior racing begins Sunday at 10 a.m.
