UAA men clip Crusaders to win another road game

The UAA men's basketball team continued to feel at home on the road, shooting 50 percent Saturday to beat Northwest Nazarene 76-64 in Nampa, Idaho.

The Seawolves are 5-1 in their last six road games,

Four players scored in double figures for UAA, including Teancum Stafford, who netted all 19 of his points in the second half. Travis Thompson also poured in 19 to finish in double figures for the 24th time this season, Colton Lauwers knocked down four 3-pointers in a 14-point game and Kyle Fossman chipped in 11.

"It was nice to see Colton find his shooting stroke," UAA coach Rusty Osborne said by email. "When he is hitting 3's it really opens things up for the others.

"Teancum was able to relax and really hit some big shots in the second half, and Travis had another solid all around game."

Lauwers hit 4 of 7 from 3-point range, where the Seawolves made 15 of 35 attempts. UAA was 27 of 53 on all shots.

The win lifted UAA past the .500 mark in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. They are 15-11 overall and 8-7 in the GNAC.

The loss was the ninth straight for Northwest Nazarene, which couldn't match UAA from 3-point range, going 10 of 28 (35.7 percent).

"It was a very good win for us tonight against a very good shooting team," Osborne said. "We struggled early but we eventually made the transition and defended really well. They got some easy baskets late when we were going to give up 2s to prevent 3s because we had a large lead."

Kevin Rima's 19 points led the Crusaders.

UAA took the lead for good about five minutes into the game and were up 39-33 at halftime.

Stafford took over in the second half, sinking three 3-pointers and a free throw in a two-minute span to push UAA's lead to 15 points at the 16:16 mark. Stafford's game included 5 of 8 shooting behind the arc.

The Seawolves play their final home games on Thursday and Saturday.
