The Alaska Aces will get a much-needed defenseman back in the lineup tonight when James Martin returns after missing 15 games for a long-time knee ailment that required surgery.
Martin recently told The Blog he had a growth in his knee (think it was the right knee) since childhood, and it began to hamper his mobility. Turned out it was a benign tumor. He showed The Blog pictures on his phone of the surgery -- ugh. Remarkable, though, that he missed so little time -- it wasn't a small incision.
Martin was back skating inside a week after the surgery.
He's been a stalwart. In 34 games, he owns 2-12--14 totals and a sweet +19 rating. The Aces have been right on the border of being short on defensemen and, given Martin's body of work this season, his return to the lineup should be a boost.
