UAF clinches playoff spot, moves into 3rd-place WCHA tie

UAF swept no-longer-league-leading Ferris State tonight with a three-goal barrage in the third period for a 5-3 win in Fairbanks that clinched the Nanooks a WCHA playoff spot and moved them into a tie with Michigan Tech for third place.

And that dropped idle UAA into a tie for fifth place with Bowling Green entering next week's regular season-closing Governor's Cup battle with UAA in Fairbanks.

Cody Kunyk's first-period turnover led to Ferris State's opening short-handed goal, but he seized redemption with a goal and two helpers.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the Nanooks have won six straight games and eight of their last nine. They're sorta hot right now. And looking like a team that really wants home ice for the first round of the playoffs in the revamped WCHA.
