Troopers handed out a rare citation for texting and driving Saturday night, after catching a 21-year-old Palmer woman weaving across the fog line of a Valley road Saturday night.
At about 11 p.m. on Saturday, troopers conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy Malibu that was crossing the fog line on Trunk Road, near College Drive in Palmer, according to the Alaska State Troopers dispatch posted online.
An investigation revealed that the driver, Emerald J. Kroeker, 21, of Palmer, was "reading and typing" text messages while driving, troopers said.
She was given a misdemeanor citation for texting while driving and released.
Alaska law has explicitly banned texting while driving since May of 2012, but police have said the law is difficult to enforce and they seldom write tickets for the infraction.
