APD veteran Fanning named deputy chief

The new deputy chief of the Anchorage Police Department is Capt. Myron Fanning, a 22-year veteran of the department who currently oversees SWAT teams, hostage negotiators and other units in the Crime Suppression Division.

Fanning replaces outgoing deputy chief Steve Hebbe, who took a job as chief of the Farmington Police Department in New Mexico. Fanning's promotion is effective March 31, according to a statement issued Monday by Anchorage police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro.

Fanning, who started at APD in 1992, was promoted to sergeant in 2000, lieutenant in 2008 and captain last year.
