Letter: Oceans beg for stronger action

Laine Welch's article (March 3 Business Section) describes how increased CO2 levels (lowering the pH of our oceans) are destroying shellfish stocks, and starting to destroy the food that our pink salmon depend on. How much longer are we going to act as if CO2 levels and climate change are not a serious problem?

The latest attack ads against Mark Begich show that some very rich funders hope to mislead us and prevent any solution. Contrary to these ads, a carbon tax, with all revenue returned to households, would not cost the average household anything — and would at least be a start at fighting this problem. Contrary to those misleading ads, Sen. Begich has not come out in favor of a carbon tax, but we should hope that he and our other members of Congress will do so.
