Letter: Budget doesn’t help centenarians

As an “aging” Alaskan I am very concerned that the president’s 2015 budget proposal to require minimum distributions from Roth IRAs is both underhanded and defies logic.

First, contrary to what was promised, the rug would be yanked from beneath the feet of many who have used the Roth IRA as a supplemental after-tax retirement and estate planning tool.

Second, the population group of ages 100-plus is claimed to be the fastest growing population segment in the country, so is the intent to make sure that legally protected and tax-deferred instruments are depleted and empty at age 78 just for fun?
