A search is underway for a 42-year-old man who reportedly fell overboard from a fishing boat in the Bering Sea Wednesday morning, the Coast Guard said.

A helicopter crew, aided by civilian vessel crews, are scouring the waters about 10 miles northwest of Unimak Island, according to Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Grant DuVuyst.

The man was aboard the fishing vessel Seeker. His name is unknown at this point, DuVuyst said.

At 7:40 a.m., the Coast Guard's command center received a report that a man had gone overboard. Weather conditions are complicating the search, DuVuyst said, with winds blowing at 35 mph and sea swells rising between 8 and 10 feet.

The helicopter crew has already completed an initial search of the scene, DuVuyst said, and will be returning to the area this afternoon after refueling.
