Police are investigating a stabbing in South Anchorage Wednesday night that sent a woman to a local hospital with severe injuries, the department said.

A call came into dispatch at 6:36 p.m. reporting that a female had been stabbed at a residence on the 13000 block of Back Road. Police and medics responded, taking the female to the hospital and arresting a male outside the home, said Jennifer Castro, a police spokeswoman.

It was reported to police that the man and woman were in a verbal fight at the home before the stabbing occurred, Castro said.

She said the two knew each other and the stabbing could be described as "a domestic violence incident," but she would not go into detail about their relationship.

Charges have yet to be filed and police are still investigating the incident, Castro said. No further information was available.
