The Alaska Aces arrived at Sullivan Arena on Thursday night for the opener of their final regular-season home series intent on stockpiling points before ending the ECHL campaign with 10 straight road games.

Instead, they collected nothing but frustration.

Colorado Eagles rookie goaltender Dustin Butler stopped 40 shots to bag his first pro shutout and engineer a 2-0 victory that marked Colorado's first victory in 12 games in Anchorage.

While Butler, who has been sidelined much of the season with injuries, proved plenty sharp, the Aces didn't generate many rebound opportunities or find a way to get traffic in front of the rookie in the opener of a three-game set.

The Aces (37-17-5) were bageled for the fourth time this season.

Colorado's Kyle Ostrow furnished the only goal necessary midway through the game, when he was the one guy to locate a loose puck. After a Kevin Ulanski pass from the right corner to the edge of Gerald Coleman's crease ricocheted off the skate of Alaska defenseman Brad Richard, Coleman (25 saves) tried to freeze the puck with his glove, but could not corral it. Richard, on his knees with his back to the net, tried to squeeze the puck between skates.

Ulanski finally back-handed it home.

Alaska pulled Coleman for an extra attacker with 1 minute, 37 seconds to go, but to no avail.

Jesse Mychan's empty-netter sealed the victory for Colorado (29-18-10), which before Thursday was 0-9-2 at Sullivan.

The Aces on Thursday made a couple of moves on the league's deadline day for trades.

They received goaltender Connor Knapp on loan from NHL Buffalo to give them a tall tandem -- Knapp is 6-foot-6, Coleman 6-5.

The arrival of Knapp hastened the departure of goalie Alex Kangas. He was traded to Evansville for future considerations.

Aces captain Nick Mazzolini lost his seven-game point streak and Richard's six-game point streak was snapped.

The Aces and Eagles play again Friday and Saturday nights.
