Anchorage’s Hans Roelle captured an NAIA national championship in the 1,000 meters last weekend at the indoor track and field championships in Geneva, Ohio.
Roelle, a junior at Eastern Oregon, won the men’s 1,000 finals in 2 minutes, 28.38 seconds. He won the race by more than 1.3 seconds.
Roelle topped the preliminaries with a time of 2:25.51, setting an Eastern Oregon school record in the process.
The victory was Roelle’s first national championship and marked the fourth time he has earned NAIA All-America honors for a top-eight finish at the national meet. Last season, the West High graduate was an indoor All-American in the distance medley relay and the 800 meters and an outdoor All-American in the 800.
