Teen falls 30 feet, rescued near Thunderbird Falls

Emergency officials rescued a 14-year-old girl Friday evening after she tumbled 30 feet from a cliff near Thunderbird Falls in Chugach State Park, said the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department.

Two nearby military personnel heard the girl scream as she fell and dialed 911 shortly before 5:45 p.m., said David Easterman, fire department spokesman.

Nine units from the department responded along with members of the Alaska Pacific University Ice Climbing Club.

Volunteers reached the girl, who had fallen onto the ice- and snow-covered ground and took her to an Anchorage hospital in stable condition after about 45 minutes, Easterman said.
