Three Anchorage basketball players -- Reece Robinson of Service, Chanel Bookert of West and Dallas Dickerson of Anchorage Christian -- collected Alaska Player of the Year honors Saturday.
Honorees were chosen in a vote by the Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches.
Robinson and Bookert topped the voting in Class 4A. Robinson is the second straight Service boy to win the award -- Adam Klie, now graduated, was last season's top player.
Bookert is the first girl from West to be named the state's Player of the Year, but she's the second Bookert to do so for the Eagles. Brother Devon, a point guard for Florida State, was the 2011 Player of the Year.
Dickerson's selection marks the sixth time in seven years an ACS boy or girl has won the Class 3A honor. Gus Simmers, now graduated, won it in 2013 and 2012, and sisters Debbiey and Anna Simmers combined for three straight from 2008-10, with Anna winning the first two.
Also earning Player of the Year awards:
• Monroe's Scooter Bynum, the Class 3A boys winner;
• Bristol Bay's Everett Moorcroft, the pick in Class 2A boys;
• Dillingham's Drew Carlos, the pick in Class 2A girls;
• Klawock's Tyrus Morgan, the Class 1A boys winner;
• Nikolaevsk's Nianiella Dorvall, the Class 1A girls winner.
