Letter: What separates fetus from baby?

In answer to Pam Lewshenia's letter questioning why abortion is not illegal when civil penalties can be levied for harming an unborn baby, it is because Roe v. Wade is the law of the land.

Concerning the difference between a fetus and a baby, it seems to me that a fetus is a part of the mother's body until it is born and takes its first breath of air, at which time, it becomes an independent human being.
