Seawolves rack awards

UAA's track and field team, which flourished at the NCAA Division II indoor nationals and also in outdoor meets last week, earned several Great Northwest Athletic Conference awards for their performances.

The Seawolves' nine All-America honors at the indoor nationals -- that included Micah Chelimo's victory in the 3,000 and runner-up in the 5,000 -- earned UAA the honor as GNAC Team of the Week.

Hurdlers Elliott Bauer and Rosie Smith won GNAC Athlete of the Week honors for outdoor performances in California. Bauer provisionally qualified for the NCAA outdoor nationals by running the 400-meter hurdles in 53.61 seconds and Smith posted a provisional qualifier in the 100 hurdles in 14.40.

Conference gymnastics

After two weeks off, UAA's gymnastics team on Saturday will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Davis, Calif., as one of six teams participating.
