Letter: Exercise your right to vote

As I watched the news on television this morning, I could not help but think of all of the people around the world who are demonstrating, agitating, protesting, fighting, dying and being tortured because they want to live in a representative society; they want to be able to vote for their leaders.

We are blessed to live in a democratic society, where voting is a right and privilege, and I would argue a duty. Yet, too many of our citizens abdicate their duty, and chose not to exercise their right to vote. The representative democracy that we are blessed to live in only functions if we as citizens fulfill our obligation as citizens, and exercise our right to vote.

I hope that you will all join me on Tuesday, April 1, in fulfilling our obligation as citizens, and support our democratic form of government, by casting your vote in the Anchorage municipal election. Government of the people, by the people, and for the people will perish from the earth without "the people."
