SBNcollegehockey.com reports UAA senior center Matt Bailey, the club's leading scorer this season, has signed a deal with NHL Anaheim -- the report is unsourced, but that website is usually very solid.
The Blog can tell you that Anaheim had expressed interest in Bailey during the season.
And Anaheim is a friend of the Seawolves. The two biggest deals in UAA history came courtesy of Anaheim -- goaltender Gregg Naumenko got a $1 million signing bonus from the Ducks after his freshman season in 1999 and forward Curtis Glencross got a $750,000 signing bonus from them after his strong sophomore year in 2004.
Naumenko is out of the game, but Glencross has delivered a strong NHL career and currently plays for the Calgary Flames.
Bailey led UAA in goals and scoring with 20-18--38 totals in 38 games. He also led the club in plus-minus (+15) and shots (120).
He helped lead the Seawolves to the WCHA Final Five and was the guy coach Matt Thomas leaned on the hardest in terms of ice time. Bailey played in all situations. He's strong and can skate.
No word from Anaheim yet -- that may not come until tomorrow. Best guess here is Bailey will begin with AHL Norfolk. Just a guess.
