Letter: Let’s get money out of politics

The Anchorage tea party wants to abolish the IRS — how lovely that sounds, no federal taxes. Our revolutionary slogan was “no taxation without representation.” The Anchorage tea party apparently wants no federal taxation whatsoever.

But the vast majority of federal taxes pay for Social Security, Medicare, and the military. So I guess the Anchorage tea party is in favor of abolishing Social Security, Medicare, and the military. OK, now we know.

A better solution would be take back our representation — take back Congress (and state legislatures) — from the wealthy special interests that have captured them. We need to get big money out of election campaigns, and get our representatives back to work on our business, instead of colluding with big donors to advance their own.
