Police: Suspect in custody after E. Anchorage armed robbery

Anchorage police have a suspect in custody and are searching for others after an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon in an East Anchorage mobile home park.

Police said a witness reported the robbery on the 1000 block of Boniface Parkway near the E. Sixth Avenue intersection just before noon. The witness told police that two men had entered the home in Mayflower Circle Park, at least one of them armed.

When police arrived, the robbery was in progress. Police saw a man running from the residence and identified two victims, one who was treated for minor injuries by medics on scene, said Jennifer Castro, police spokeswoman.

Sgt. Luis Soto said a short chase ensued before the male suspect was arrested. The suspect, who has not been identified, is being questioned and has yet to be charged, Soto said.

For at least two hours after the initial 911 call, a SWAT team and K-9s walked the mobile home park, searching for a second suspect. Police cars dotted the area and officers patrolled the vicinity. By Wednesday evening, there had not been a second arrest, police said.

Earlier this month, police investigated two armed robberies in South Anchorage. On March 8, six men held a woman and her teenage son at gunpoint, binding them with bungee cords. Nine days later, on March 17, police said another South Anchorage home was robbed by multiple suspects. Police have not made any arrests in either case, Castro said.
