A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbing a South Anchorage liquor store at gunpoint Wednesday night, Anchorage police said.

At 9:49 p.m., police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Brown Jug store at 2101 Abbott Road. Witnesses said a man entered the store, picked up a bottle of alcohol and brought it to the register, Anchorage police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said in a statement.

At that point, the man "brandished a firearm in front of the employee and demanded cash from the register," Castro said. The man then fled with the bottle of alcohol and the money.

About 10 minutes later, police located a man who matched the description of the robbery suspect, Castro said. The man, identified as Stephen Joseph, was on foot near East 88th Avenue and Lake Otis Parkway, Castro said.

After investigation, Joseph was arrested and will face charges of first-degree robbery and assault in connection with the incident, Castro said.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

NOTE: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the suspect as Joseph Stephen.
