Wreck near Copper Center kills Mentasta man

UPDATE 8 a.m. Friday:

A 32-year-old Mentasta man died in a rollover crash on the Old Richardson Highway near Copper Center Thursday afternoon, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers said in a dispatch that Charles David III was driving a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo northbound near Mile 105 of the highway when the car left the road and overturned.

David, who was alone in the car, was ejected, troopers said. Troopers and paramedics responded about 1 p.m. Thursday and pronounced David dead at the scene.

Troopers said it appeared a seatbelt was not used, and alcohol was believed to be a factor. Road conditions were reported to be dry at the time.

An autopsy will be conducted with the State Medical Examiner's Office.
