NAHL report: Coulee Region's loss is Kenai River's gain of playoff spot

The Kenai River Brown Bears secured the final playoff spot available in the NAHL's Midwest Division without lifting a finger today -- well, other than to refresh the computer and see how the Coulee Region Chill was doing.

The Chill lost 7-3 to the Minnesota Magicians in the league's regular-season finale, and that gave the Brown Bears a one-point edge over Coulee Region for the Midwest Division's fourth and final playoff spot.

That's the good news.

The tougher news is the Brown Bears will face the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, the circuit's overall champion and top seed from the Midwest Division in a first-round, best-of-5 playoff series. Fairbanks went 13-3-0 against Kenai River this season.
