APD: Wrong-way driver on Tudor Road arrested after collisions

Anchorage police arrested a 26-year-old man with a medical condition that caused him to black out after he drove the wrong way down East Tudor Road during rush hour on Monday morning, hitting several vehicles.

At 8:41 a.m., police said, they began receiving 911 calls about a Subaru driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Tudor near the Elmore Road intersection. The driver, who police identified as Zakkai Griffin, hit two vehicles head-on before coming to a stop, said Jennifer Castro, police spokeswoman.

Castro said the driver and others in the two vehicles received minor injuries. No one was taken to the hospital, she said. Police cited Griffin for driving with a suspended license and not having insurance.

Castro said federal law bars her from discussing the specifics of Griffin's medical conditions. She said medics told police that he had blacked out while driving.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
