Police intercepted a package of cocaine at a Anchorage motel Tuesday and arrested the two people, police say, were its intended recipients.
Officers with the Department of Special Assignment Unit responded to the Midtown motel after an employee called 911 reporting a "suspicious" delivery for motel guests. Police brought a K-9, named Doc, who alerted police to the presence of drugs in the package, said Dani Myren, police spokeswoman.
Myren said police obtained a search warrant, opened the package and found a kilogram of cocaine. Police estimate that the drug had a wholesale value of at least $36,000 and a local street value of about $100,000 -- $100 per gram, Myren said.
Police arrested Emmanuel Ford, 23, and Leaha Hazza, 20, both of Anchorage, and charged them with misconduct involving controlled substances, felonies. Ford is in custody at the Anchorage jail. Hazza posted bail Thursday, according to court records.
