Arts scene: 'New Dances,' 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,' Anchorage Concert Chorus

Bound into spring

The UAA Department of Theatre & Dance's annual "New Dances" concert features original dances by both local choreographers and guest artists as performed by 45 limber dancers in the Fine Arts Building's Mainstage Theatre. Performance times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 6 p.m. Sundays through April 20. Tickets are available at uaatix.com or by calling 786-4849.

Drums, trumpets, voices

"Joyful Noise," the Anchorage Concert Chorus' spring concert, will feature festive and glorious music for chorus, brass and percussion by Brahms, Schutz and others. The focus is on the big sound guaranteed to raise listeners from their seats, if not from their graves. The chorus will be joined by the UAA University Singers in a big program highlighted by "Carmina Burana." Atwood Concert Hall is the venue and the performance will take place at 8 p.m. on April 12. Tickets are available at centertix.net.

Classic Tennessee

Perseverance Theatre presents Tennessee Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," the stupendously told saga of a family rent by suspicion, alcohol, greed, desperation and mendacity. Alaskan Enrique Bravo, Meredith Schmidt, Ricci Adan, David Haines and Kevin Bennett share the stage with national pros Herbert Siguenza and Elizabeth Kelly. Off-Broadway's Robert Barry Fleming directs. Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday through April 27, and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, in the Sydney Laurence Theatre. Tickets are available at centertix.net.
