Cat Papasodora of Eagle River earned an individual riflery championship and helped her Borealis Bullseyes team qualify for the national championships at last week’s Three-Position Air Rifle Western Region championships in Layton, Utah.
Papasodora, a high school junior, won the precision-class title at the Civilian Marksmanship Program event. She fired a 1,176 during the six-stage qualifying round and a 101.9 in the finals for a total of 1,277 points, eight more than her nearest competitor.
Papasodora joined Tristan Henderson (1,147), Logan Hanscom (1,141) and Marina Noble (1,140) to place 16th in the team competition. The four combined for 4,604 points; first place went to an Ohio team that shot 4,680.
The Borealis team of Emily VanNortwick (1,147), William Wood (1,134), Clarissa DeLeon (1,128) and Sydney Deering (1,118) placed 33rd with 4,527 points.
The top 27 teams earned invitations to the national championships, which will be at Camp Perry, Ohio, in late June.
