Spoke with Alaska Aces head coach Rob Murray a bit ago and got the team's 23-man playoff roster for the ECHL's Kelly Cup postseason, which the Aces open Friday night at Sullivan Arena against the Las Vegas Wranglers.
The breakdown is 12 forwards, nine defensemen, two goaltenders, and 21 of those 23 players are with the team currently or will be soon (goalie Olivier Roy is en route today from AHL Abbotsford). The two players who are on the Aces' playoff roster but not currently with them are defensemen Kane Lafranchise and Zach Davies, both still up with Abbotsford.
Murray went deep on defense because that's the team's jump-off point -- they led the ECHL in fewest goals allowed. Also, if injuries creep in, it's easier, and more productive, to stick a D-man up on the wing than drop a forward back to D. Zach McKelvie, for instance, plays D for the Aces, but has been at forward with Abbotsford this season. Also, you may note that winger Jordan Kremyr, up with Abbotsford, is not on the Aces' playoff roster. That's because he is currently injured.
The Aces are off until Wednesday, when they will practice, as they will Thursday.
Anyhow, here's the roster:
Forwards (12) -- Nick Mazzolini, Peter Sivak, Brendan Connolly, Evan Trupp, Brett Findlay, Jordan Morrison, Tyler Mosienko, Turner Elson, Andy Taranto, Alex Belzile, Ross Ring-Jarvi, Tommy Mele.
Defensemen (9) -- Brad Richard, Corey Syvret, Drew MacKenzie, Zach McKelvie, James Martin, Sean Curry, John Ramage, Kane Lafranchise, Zach Davies.
Goaltenders (2) -- Gerald Coleman, Olivier Roy.
