Power has been restored to everyone affected by a brief but massive outage Thursday evening in the Mat-Su Borough, according to the Matanuska Electric Association.

Original story:

A fire sparked in Butte near a transmission line briefly cut power to some 30,000 ratepayers in the Mat-Su Borough Thursday evening, according to the Matanuska Electric Association.

Traffic signals were shut down during rush hour and initial estimates of those impacted varied from 15,000 at about 4:30 to nearly 30,000 in about 45 minutes, MEA said. Julie Este, a spokesperson for the electric cooperative, said that by about 5:15 p.m. all but 3,045 ratepayers had their electricity restored. Those still in the dark were concentrated between Butte and Palmer, according to the co-op.

Anyone impacted by the outage or still without power was asked to call MEA at 746-7697.
