ANCHORAGE, AK—April 18, 2014 –It's National Lineman Appreciation Day. Municipal Light & Power recognizes line workers have a vital role in the community, working in harsh weather and sometimes hazardous conditions to keep electricity flowing year-round and to restore power immediately during an outage.

"Our linemen are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and they have to be ready for any situation. They're often the first responders during storms, making the scene safe for other public safety workers. We value the work they do every day to maintain reliable service to homes and businesses," said ML&P General Manager Jim Trent.

ML&P has received numerous regional and national recognition for its outstanding safety record, including that of the lineman crew.

According to ML&P Operations Division Manager Greg Eidam, there continues to be a strong demand for highly trained line workers. Learning the trade often involves completing a technical training program, followed by an apprenticeship. "It's a challenging but rewarding profession that requires significant training, knowledge, attention to detail and physical stamina," said Eidam.
