Man critically injured in downtown assault

Anchorage police say a man was critically injured in an early morning assault downtown on Sunday.

The assault happened just after 2:30 a.m. on the 700 block of W. 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage, Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Castro wrote in an e-mail Tuesday.

Castro did not release the precise location of the assault or the name of the victim Tuesday, saying that doing so would compromise an ongoing investigation.

Police anticipate being able to release more information on Wednesday, Castro wrote.
