Runners and walkers have two more chances to join the crowd at Saturday's Heart Run.
People can register Friday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the King Career Center and Saturday morning before the start of the popular 5-kilometer run on the UAA and APU campuses.
Nearly 5,000 people had signed up prior to Wednesday's bib pickup and registration event at the King Career Center, said Kristin Willersdorf, the Anchorage development director for the American Heart Association.
Our goal is really to have people come out and have a good time and take steps to live a healthier life," Willersdorf said. "We like to say the Heart Run is our mission in action -- people taking steps and being active and starting to live a healthier life that will help to prevent cardiovascular disease.
Race day features two separate events -- a timed 5-K race beginning at 9:30 a.m. and an untimed 5-K and 3-K walk/run at 10 a.m. Both begin and end at the UAA Arts Building.
Those interested in running the timed 5-K must sign up Friday. On Saturday, registration is available only for those wanting to enter the untimed 5-K and 3-K events.
