Western Conference roundup: Stockton has Ontario on the ropes

Doyle Woody,Adn Staff

Let's take a tour around the ECHL's Western Conference to see how the other series are going as the Alaska Aces, leading Las Vegas 2-0 in that best-of-7, get ready for Game 3 tonight in Sin City.

The big news is the Ontario Reign, whose 95 points in the regular season were second in the conference and third overall -- Alaska had 97 and Reading 96 -- are in serious trouble. Stockton's Joey Martin produced his club's second straight hat trick Tuesday -- Jeremy Langlois had one in Game 2 -- to help deliver a 5-2 Game 3 win that gives Stockton a 3-0 series lead. The Reign had the misfortune to start on the road even though they hold home-ice advantage -- rink availability was an issue -- but they fell at home Tuesday despite outshooting Stockton 43-21.

Stockton can finish the series tonight in Ontario. That's one of five games on the docket.

Bakersfield got an OT dagger from Joel Broda and 31 saves from former Aces goaltender Laurent Brossoit to earn a 4-3 home-ice win over Utah that gives the Condors a 2-1 series lead.

Also, Colorado beat visiting Idaho 4-1 to take a 2-1 lead in that series.

Games 4 for Colorado-Idaho and Bako-Utah are both Thursday night.
