The Bakersfield Condors used defenseman Collin Bowman's game-tying strike in the final second and Andrew Carroll's game-tying strike in extra time tonight to earn their second straight overtime win against the Utah Grizzlies, winning 3-2 at home and taking a 3-1 lead in the ECHL Western Conference quarterfinals series.
Former Alaska Aces goalie Laurent Brossoit stopped 26 shots. All four games in the series have been decided by one goal, and the Condors can close out the Grizzlies in Game 5 Friday in California.
Also in the West, the Idaho Steelheads used a goal by winger William Rapuzzi of Anchorage on the way to building a three-goal lead that chased Colorado goalie Dustin Butler and withstood a comeback to earn a 4-3 road win over the Eagles and forge a 2-2 tie in the series that continues with Game 5 Friday. The Steelheads were up 4-1 inside the opening 28 minutes -- that sent Butler packing -- and the Eagles rallied with two second-period goals, one by former Ace Alex Hudson.
Out East, the No. 1-seeded and defending Kelly Cup champion Reading Royals have some work to do. The Fort Wayne Komets used two Aaron Clarke goals in a 4-1 home win that gave them a 2-1 lead in the series.
