Former UAA assistant Whitten gets Lake Superior State gig

Former UAA assistant coach Damon Whitten, who a year ago was a candidate for the UAA head coaching job that ultimately went to Matt Thomas, today was named head coach of Lake Superior State.

Lake Soo plays in the WCHA, which includes UAA, UAF and Michigan Tech, where Whitten was an assistant coach before being tabbed to lead the Lakers.

Whitten at UAA was an assistant for two seasons under Dave Shyiak (2006-2008), who Thomas replaced. Whitten replaces Jim Roque, whose contract was not renewed at season's end after guiding the program for nine seasons.

Love how some schools get the news out. Lake Soo's press release about Whitten's hiring makes no mention of Roque.
