Woman seriously injured in hit-and-run incident on Seward Highway

A 46-year-old woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in the Rogers Park area late Friday night, Anchorage police said.

Police responded about 11 p.m. to a report of a pedestrian who was hit on the Seward Highway between Northern Lights and Benson Boulevard, according to an Anchorage Police statement released Saturday morning.

The woman was jaywalking, and heading west from the Fred Meyer parking lot toward the Sears Mall parking lot when she was struck by a sedan, said police spokeswoman Anita Shell. The sedan then sped south, according to police.

The suspect vehicle was described as a silver, four-door sedan with black mirrors. The passenger-side mirror was left behind after the crash, and the car may have some front-end damage to the passenger-side front fender area, police said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with what police described as "life-altering" injuries. She suffered a compound fracture to her leg, as well as internal injuries, Shell said.

"She most likely will never walk again, and will always have a leg issue," Shell said.

The woman was listed in serious condition, the statement said.
