The Alaska Aces' AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat, used a third-period comeback on the road tonight in Michigan to remain alive in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Trailing 2-0 after two periods to the Grand Rapids Griffins, who won Games 1 and 2 in British Columbia, used goals from Corey Locke and Markus Granlund for a 2-1 victory that forced Game 4 in the best-of-5 series.
Former Aces goaltender Joni Ortio was particularly clutch. He not only stopped 34 shots, he furnished an assist on Granlund's power-play marker with just 62 seconds left in the game.
Game 4 is Friday in Grand Rapids. Game 5, if necessary, would be Saturday in Grand Rapids.
Interesting series: Three games, three road wins.
