The Portland Winterhawks and Edmonton Oil Kings meet in the Western Hockey League Finals for the third straight season beginning Saturday night in Portland, and each club has an Alaskan on the roster.
The defending champion Winterhawks, who have been to the Finals four straight seasons, include defenseman Josh Hanson, 20, of Eagle River. He's in his fourth season with the club, and in the regular-season he went 2-16--18 and +17 in 68 games. In 10 playoff games this spring, he has an assist and a +1 rating.
The Oil Kings, champions in 2012 behind former Alaska Aces (and current Bakersfield Condors) goaltender Laurent Brossoit, include rookie center Lane Bauer of Anchorage, who turns 18 Friday. He's played is six playoff games this spring -- no points, -2 -- after earning 7-9--16 totals and a +5 rating in 47 regular-season games.
Both Edmonton and Portland have blown through the first three rounds of the playoffs with 12-2 records.
