Letter: AWWU rates should be based on usage, not cost of infrastructure

The article in Wednesday ADN about rates for AWWU was interesting but simply repeated the mantra AWWU has been trying to sell as justification for charging all residential customers the same rate. It is, frankly, a load of baloney.

Regardless of the cost of infrastructure, rates should be based on usage. It matters not that the actual cost of water is $0.65 a month. Customers who use more of the utility’s service should pay proportionally more for the service. It really is a simple concept. Rates could be based on metered water, number of residents in the household, or number of bedrooms and baths.
