The NAHL's Fairbanks Ice Dogs are one win away from playing for their second Robertson Cup in the last four seasons.
The Ice Dogs, the junior circuit's regular-season champs, used three first-period goals in a span of 6:03 and 30 saves from Kevin Aldridge to beat the Michigan Warriors, 3-1, tonight before a sellout crowd of 2,242 at the Big Dipper in Fairbanks in the opener of the best-of-3 semifinal series.
Game 2 is Saturday night, and the Warriors must win to force Game 3 Sunday.
Jacob Hetz, Hans Gorowsky and Yannick Vedel scored Fairbanks' goals.
