The ECHL has suspended Alaska Aces winger Tommy Mele, who opened the scoring less than two minutes into a 5-2 victory at Idaho in Game 3 of the ECHL Western Conference semifinal series Monday, for Game 4 Wednesday for "an illegal hit to the head,'' which we believe is somewhat redundant.
In any event, Mele, who scored the final goal in Alaska's 6-4 win in Game 2, will be in civilian clothes at CenturyLink Arena. Believe his hit was on Idaho's Luke Judson.
Best bet is Andy Taranto will move into Mele's spot in the lineup. The other forward available is Ross Ring-Jarvi.
The league also announced the usual fine of an "undisclosed amount" on Mele.
Also, Idaho's Mitch Wahl was fined the usual "undisclosed amount'' for his third-period slash on Aces winger Evan Trupp. That penalty gave the Aces a two-man advantage, and Trupp scored on it.
