A 5-year-old child was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday night after she was struck by a car in South Anchorage, according to police.

Police said the girl was riding her bicycle in the middle of a roadway intersection in Dimond Estates Mobile Home Park near 1200 W. Dimond Blvd. when the driver of an SUV turned left and hit her, said Jennifer Castro, police spokeswoman, in an email statement.

The girl was not wearing a helmet, she said.

Police and medics responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call around 6:15 p.m. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police, Castro said.

Police continue to investigate the crash, Castro said. No citations or charges were filed as of Friday evening.
