An earthquake centered beneath Cook Inlet off the Kenai Peninsula jolted people awake across Southcentral Alaska on Saturday morning.
The quake, at 6:16 a.m., had a preliminary magnitude of 5.54 and was centered 16 miles northwest of Ninilchik, according to the Alaska Earthquake Information Center.
There were no immediate reports of damage, but the quake was felt by people across the region.
