East wins tourney
East beat Lathrop twice Saturday, once in pool play and again in the championship, to win the East-West softball tournament Saturday at Albrecht Fields.
Sydney Smith got the win in both lopsided victories for East, 10-1 in pool play and 14-1 in the championship.
In the first game, Taria Page went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and two RBIs while Morgan Smith had two doubles.
In the second game, Smith went 3 for 3 with an RBI while tournament MVP Morgan Hill was 3 for 3 with two doubles. Page had a pair of hits, including a three-run home run.
West downed Juneau 11-8 to win the third-place game. Juneau defeated West by the same score earlier Saturday in pool play.
Devonee Jackson, Nanea Tali and Erin Goudreau all had two hits and a double for West in the third-place game. In the first game, Lauren Syrup went 2 for 4 for the Eagles.
South wins two
South earned wins over Soldotna and Service on Saturday at Albrecht. South scored seven unanswered runs to get past Soldotna 12-9 before edging Service 4-2.
Against Soldotna, Makenna Hurd went 3 for 4 with an RBI and scored three runs. Danni DesJarlais went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs.
Rachel White fanned nine and ripped a home run and a triple to help the Wolverines defeat Service. McKenzie Smith hit an RBI triple to score White, which proved to be the game-winning run in the fourth inning.
