Letter: Mayor can't make a decision without also making a mess

I find it hard to believe that there is no one capable and qualified in the active firefighter organization who wouldn't be able to fill the job as chief other than a 74-year-old retiree.

It is a shame that Mr. Bushue couldn't handle the pressure, but frankly how can he just take his demotion and be offered the battalion chief position when there are others waiting for those positions for which they have tested? This is the whole problem with the mayor being able to handpick his cronies for positions that matter, and his lack of knowledge of the jobs he is offering. If the problem boils down to overtime spending, more firefighters should be hired so overtime wouldn't be necessary. Lately, it seems that every decision Mayor Dan Sullivan makes is one hot mess.
