East softball earns 50th consecutive win

East's softball team won two games Monday at Albrecht Fields to extend its winning streak to 50 games. The last time the T-birds lost was in the 2012 Cook Inlet Conference tournament.

Syndey Smith pitched two complete-game two-hitters to help East down South 6-0 and throttled Service 13-1. Against South, Smith struck out eight and smacked a solo home run.

Taria Page had an enormous game against Service, going 4 for 4 with three home runs and seven RBIs.

The Cougars also played twice Monday, beating Eagle River 19-1 in their second game.

Chugiak 8, Dimond 0

Chugiak pitcher Katy Bakker struck out seven in a five-inning, 8-0 shutout of Dimond in Cook Inlet Conference softball action Monday at Albrecht Fields. Joley Hodgeson's two hits for Dimond were the only hits surrendered by Bakker.

Tori Hooper and Katrina Grant both doubled and singled for the Mustangs. Hooper drove in two runs and Grant drove in one.

Baseball

Service 10, East 6

Lucas Lapointe struck out seven over five innings and helped his cause by scoring twice Monday in Service's 10-6 Cook Inlet Conference baseball victory over East.

Lapointe, who gave up three unearned runs, was one of three Cougars who had multiple-hit games. Lapointe, Jake Wasson and Raleigh Pigg had two hits apiece, with Pigg driving in three runs and Wasson driving in two.

Gaten Davis was 2 for 3 with one RBI to lead East.
