Anchorage police say the motorcyclist involved in a Thursday morning rush-hour collision with a dump truck has died.
The unidentified motorcyclist was declared dead at a local hospital just before 9 a.m.
A preliminary investigation of the crash determined the motorcyclist was driving east on Dowling Road when he collided with a dump truck pulling a pup trailer. The truck was reportedly turning west onto Dowling from Petersburg Street when the collision occurred. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Police say the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
Traffic was rerouted for both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Dowling between Seward Highway and Lake Otis Boulevard, from Quinhagak to Burlwood streets, as police investigated the crash. The roadway was re-opened just after 12:30 p.m., said police spokesperson Jennifer Castro.
No citations or charges have been issued and the collision remains under investigation.
The identity of the motorcyclist will be released after relatives have been notified, police said.
Kaila Charles, 22, was working at the Mocha Motion coffee stand across the street when she saw the truck turn. She said she heard the motorcyclist downshift just before the crash happened.
"I saw plastic fly everywhere," Charles said.
