Thomet, Ostrander collect Region III track titles

The state's premier distance runners took the 3,200 titles Friday at the Region III track and field championships in Palmer.

Allie Ostrander of Kenai was about 14 seconds off her personal best but more than a minute ahead of second-place Alex Mathis of Wasilla. Ostrander clocked 10:17.0.

Kodiak's Levi Thomet triumphed in 9:43.12 in the boys race, one of three runners under 10 minutes. Kenai's Jonah Theisen (9:45.99) and Jordan Theisen (9:48.79) placed second and third.

Kodiak's boys and Colony's girls lead the Class 4A team standings in Palmer. Anchorage Christian, sparked by region championships from Dallas Dickerson in the girls high jump and Nate Simmers in the boys long jump, led both the boys and girls in the Class 3A team standings.
